The Holy Synod of the Albanian Orthodox Church convened on Saturday for an extraordinary session and declared a five-day period of mourning in memory of Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, who passed away earlier that morning.

The body of the late Archbishop will be brought to the “Resurrection of Christ” Cathedral in Tirana, Albania, on Tuesday, January 28, at 4:00 PM. Faithful are invited to pay their final respects throughout the following day.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m., following the Divine Liturgy.

During the same session, Metropolitan John of Korçë was elected as the locum tenens of the archepiscopal throne.

After the meeting, the Albanian hierarchs offered a Trisagion for the repose of Archbishop Anastasios’ soul and urged all faithful to pray for him.
