The Ministry of Culture has announced the current progress in preparing the National Museum of the 1989 Anti-Communist Revolution. The museum will operate under the ministry’s auspices in the historic building of the former Command Headquarters of the Military Garrison in downtown Timișoara, which will be restored and modernized.
The permanent exhibition will showcase the events of the 1989 Revolution, offering a unique experience that combines classical exhibit presentation with modern digital technologies.
The Zonal Urban Plan has been completed, and work is currently underway on the Feasibility Study. “We expect the design work to be completed next year, after which the Ministry of Culture, through the Project Management Unit, will launch the tender for the execution of the work,” stated a press release on the institution’s website.
“This is a major investment for the Ministry of Culture and Romania, as it is a commitment to our historical memory and the democratic values of our nation.”
Ministry representatives noted, “With this museum, Romania reaffirms its position on the European stage as a state that values freedom, democracy, and fundamental human rights, essential elements won with sacrifices during the 1989 Revolution.”
The total investment is approximately 17 million euros, co-financed by the Council of Europe’s Development Bank.
