Recent centenarian Father Nicolae Diaconescu was declared an honorary citizen of Bengești-Ciocadia, where he served as a priest.
Victor Geogia, the Mayor of Bengești-Ciocadia commune, Octavian Moraru, the president of the National Association of War Veterans – “Tudor Vladimirescu” Branch, Gorj county, and Colonel Gheorghe Andronescu went to Fr Nicolae’s home to confer him the honorary citizenship.
Father Nicolae Diaconescu was sent to the front during the Second World War as soon as he completed the seminary.

The 100-year-old priest gave the following advice to the younger generations: “They should be as they have to. They should love their homeland, love their nation, love everything that pursues the welfare of this country,” the local publication Pandurul reported.
The priest is “the most well-known and respected man of Bălcești village, Bengesti Ciocadia commune,” publicist Dorin Brozbă wrote on Facebook last month when the locals paid tribute to the priest on his 100th birthday.
