Saint Grigorie Dascalul Celebrated At Caldarusani Monastery, County Of Ilfov

Today, 22 June 2016, the Romanian Orthodox Church celebrated Saint Hierarch Grigorie Dascalul, Metropolitan of Wallachia. On this occasion, Caldarusani Monastery, county of Ilfov has become a true place of pilgrimage for the faithful who have come in large number to venerate the relics of the Saint Hierarch preserved at this monastic settlement. His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest visited the monastic community and the faithful present there on the occasion.

Caldarusani Monastery is one of the many places of worship protected by Saint Hierarch Grigore Dascalul. On this feast, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul assisted by a group of priests and deacons. To end with the celebration, the solemn service for the late founders and monks of the monastery was celebrated.

According to Trinitas Radio station, His Grace delivered a sermon in which he said that the people have perfect example of humility in Saint Grigorie Dascalul.

Saint Grigorie was born in 1765, in Bucharest, and joined the monastic life at Neamt Monastery. On 4 January 1823, he was ordained Bishop, and appointed Metropolitan of Wallachia.

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church met on 20 October 2005 decided that Metropolitan Grigorie Dascalul should be ranked among the saints, and celebrated on 22 June. The official proclamation of his canonisation took place on 21 May 2006, in the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest on the occasion of the celebration of its dedication day.
