Romanian Parish to be set up in Zagreb for Orthodox believers

The Standing National Church Council decided on March 16 to found a Romanian Orthodox parish in Zagreb, Croatia.

With the support of the Roman-catholic Archdiocese in Zagreb, St John the Baptist Chapel will be organised according to the Eastern Orthodox tradition and will soon serve the Romanian community living in the capital of Croatia.

The future Romanian Orthodox Church will have a second patronal feast: the Feast of the Holy Emperor Constantine with his Mother Helen.

The church building will be equipped with the necessary liturgical items with the support of the Romanian Patriarchate. Furthermore, His Grace Siluan, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Hungary, is appointed to supervise the administrative organisation of the parish.

During a meeting held on March 14 at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest, the Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Davor Ivo Stier, expressed the support of the Croatian state authorities for the setting-up the Romanian Orthodox parish in Zagreb.
