Patriarch Daniel encourages students sitting for national exams

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel sent a message of blessing and encouragement to all students sitting for final exams these days.

More than 172,000 eighth grade students in Romania started the National Evaluation on Monday, June 15, and the authorities have prepared special measures for these exams, aimed at preventing and controlling the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

A total of 172,482 students have enrolled in the National Evaluation, and slightly over 16,000 of them are from Bucharest, according to data from the Ministry of Education. The exam started on Monday with the written test in Romanian Language and Literature. The math test is next (on June 17).

Blessing and encouragement for exams: full text

Beloved young people,

The Church permanently supports the School and is with you in your intellectual and ethical preparation for life, at a time when the development, improvement and highlighting of the personality in the community matter more and more.

Exams should be understood as opportunities for assessment and intellectual progress for continuous training in a competitive society, but also the cultivation of spiritual and cultural values as an enrichment of the capacity for dialogue and communion between people.

In the context of the current pandemic, an unusual period in which you had to prepare exclusively from home, we urge parents, professors and priests in the parish to support you permanently, combining good advice with prayer.

We pray to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Teacher and Light of the world, to give you peace, joy, much courage and success!

With fatherly love and blessing,

† Daniel
Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church
