Reception offered at Cotroceni Palace on Europe Day 2017

His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, attended Thursday, 11 May 2017, the official reception offered by the President of Romania at Cotroceni Palace, occasioned by the celebration of Europe Day.

Also present were European Commission President Jean-Claude Junker, European Commissioner for Regional Politics Corina Cretu, PM Sorin Grindeanu, former presidents of Romania and other officials.

I am glad that, ten years after its accession [to the EU], Romania maintains its profoundly pro-European vision, said the President of Romania Mr Klaus Werner Iohannis in his speech.

Romanians are still among the most pro-European citizens of the Union, President Iohannis said explaining that this is because the European programme is much more than a simple political construction for us. Klaus Iohannis added that when we say European Union, we say freedom, democracy, peace and prosperity.

Romania is a full EU member since 2007.
