Orthodox Church consecrated at base of Mount Kilimanjaro

A new Orthodox church named in honor of the Three Holy Hierarchs—Sts. Gregory the Theologian, John Chrysostom, and Basil the Great, was consecrated on Sunday at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, reports Romfea.

The service of consecration for the remote church was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Nairobi, with the assistance of the Cypriot hierarchs His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Amathus and His Grace Bishop Epiphanios of Ledra, and with the participation of local and Cypriot priests.

More than 60 faithful in all joined in the festive celebration. Met. Makarios also ordained a third-year seminarian to the priesthood during the festive Divine Liturgy.

In his address following the Liturgy, the metropolitan thanked God for the many donations that went towards the church and many other blessed missionary activities.

He also called on all present, and especially the newly-ordained to continue to carry the joyful message of love and hope to the thirsty world that is looking for Christ.

The service was followed with a rich and festive traditional meal, with traditional dances and songs from local Orthodox parishes.
