Numismatic issues launched to mark 100 years since the union of Bukovina with Romania

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 29 October 2018, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac) and a collector coin made of brass to mark 100 years since the union of Bukovina with Romania.

The coins have the following technical characteristics:

Obverse of the gold coin: the image of the Metropolitan Palace in Cernăuți, where the union of Bukovina with Romania was voted on 28 November 1918; the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “100 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2018”.

Obverse of the silver coin: in the foreground, an image of the building of the National Council in Kishinev where, on 27 March 1918, the union of Bessarabia with Romania was voted, while in the background, an excerpt from the Union Act; the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2018”.

Obverse of the brass collector coin: the image of the Metropolitan Palace in Cernăuți, where the union of Bukovina with Romania was voted on 28 November 1918; the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “50 BANI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2018”.

Reverse (common to all coins made of gold, silver, copper-plated tombac and brass):(made of gold, silver, copper-plated tombac and brass): the depiction of Iancu Flondor and General Iacob Zadik announcing the vote of the union of Bukovina with Romania; the inscriptions “100 DE ANI DE LA UNIREA BUCOVINEI CU ROMANIA” and “28 Noiembrie 1918”.

The mintage is as follows:

  • 200 sets of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac); and
  • 5,000 brass collector coins.

The selling prices are as follows:

  • lei 1,925.00, VAT excluded, per set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac); and
  • lei 10.00, VAT excluded, for the brass collector coin.

The gold, silver and copper-plated tombac coins and the brass collector coins, marking 100 years since the union of Bukovina with Romania, are legal tender on the territory of Romania, BNR reports.

The sets of three coins and the brass collector coins, marking 100 years since the union of Bukovina with Romania, will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, and Timişoara.
