Greek Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago tossed out the ceremonial first pitch at White Sox vs St Louis Cardinals Game that took place Wednesday, July 11, in Chicago, Illinois, reports The National Herald.

Metropolitan Nathanael told the National Herald that he was invited by the local White Sox team since ceremonial first pitches are one of the best traditions in sports.

‘Because it was the Greek evening and we had a strong presence of the community there, they proposed their Metropolitan and I naturally accepted it with great joy.’

‘I was given the opportunity to be with the world at that moment, not only in the temple and the church, but even in the ball (game). It was a good opportunity, we had a good time.’

Being asked what the young people were saying about him, the Metropolitan said, “you can see on Facebook how they reacted. They were delighted to see their Metropolitan. At some moment I turned around, I saw all those I could see. We had several parishes there, the fathers brought their youth. I saw the members of AHEPA at the game, we had a presence from various Organizations.”

Given that a home team win followed the first pitch, His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael will consider first pitch invitations from the rest of Major League Baseball, reads a post by the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago on its official Facebook page.
