Lidia Stăniloae's Funeral Service

Clergy, people of culture, relatives and acquaintances paid February 22 a final tribute to the Lidia Stăniloae, daughter of the famous Romanian theologian Rev. Dumitru Stăniloae.

The funeral service for this ‘worthy daughter of the Romanian Orthodox Church’ as Patriarch Daniel called her was performed at Cernica Monastery, Ilfov County.

His Grace Varlaam of Ploiesti, assistant bishop to the Patriarch, officiated the service in the attendance of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

In his funeral homily, His Beatitude recalled the luminous personality of Mrs Lidia Stăniloae, a distinguished person of culture and erudite writer, and worthy daughter of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The Romanian Patriarch referred to her as a genuine apologist and Orthodox Christian missionary among Romanian and foreign intellectuals, writers and poets.

His Beatitude stressed that Lidia Stăniloae helped others understand that the existing connection between faith and culture in the history and the life of the Romanian people is stronger and more beneficial than any exterior political ideology.

The courage she has proved in defending true faith, her love of nation, her exemplary dignity and sincerity, Patriarch Daniel noted, should become our landmarks and should encourage us, who have the sacred responsibility to continue with dedication and wisdom the mission that our predecessors have served exemplarily.

Lidia Stăniloae, daughter of Prof. Rev. Dumitru Stăniloae, reposed on Friday, 17 February 2017, at the age of 83.
