Founders of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania commemorated at the Patriarchal Cathedral

On the 99th anniversary of the proclamation of the Union of Bessarabia with the Kingdom of Romania, the founders of the Union were commemorated Saturday at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. The V. Rev. Archimandrite Veniamin Goreanu, patriarchal adviser at the Office of the Holy Synod, conducted the memorial service on 25 March 2017.

Archimandrite Veniamin expressed his belief that God will listen to our prayers and will help Romanians to overcome disunion and division and to cooperate for their nation’s prosperity and profit.

His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Romania, Mr Mihai Gribincea, attended the service.

The Moldovan Ambassador referred to the Union that took place on 27 March 1918 considering it a profitable act because it delayed for two decades the coming of the Bolshevik plague over the population of Bessarabia.

I am happy to see a group of students from Bessarabia here today, the Ambassador said. It is important that our young generation know the events that took place at that time, to understand their importance, because then they will realise what their identity is, what language they speak and to which space they belong, Mr. Gribincea said.
