Elder Iakovos Tsalikis to be officially declared a saint by Ecumenical Patriarch

The Greek Metropolis of Chalkida, Istaia and Northern Sporades has announced that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens will attend the canonization ceremony that will take place on Evia Island on the Sunday of All Saints, during which Elder Iakovos Tsalikis will be officially declared a saint of the Orthodox Church.

Elder Iakovos Tsalikis (1920-1991), a contemporary hieromonk endowed with many divine virtues and spiritual gifts, about whom St Paisios of Mount Athos said that he had the “charismata of Saint Nectarius”, was glorified by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in November 2017.

The celebrations dedicated to the proclamation of Elder Iakovos’ sainthood will take place at St David Monastery on Evia Island on June 2 –June 3, 2018, the communique of the Chalkida Metropolis reads.

The Ecumenical Patriarch and the Archbishop of Athens will be welcomed at the monastery Saturday, June 2, at 18.15 p.m.

The two Primates will attend the Great Vespers at the monastery’s main church (katholikon), during which the synodal decree of the canonization of the former abbot of St David Monastery in Evia will be read out.

On Sunday, June 3, the two Orthodox leaders will concelebrate the festive Divine Liturgy at the church of the monastery.
