Commemoration Service for the Authors of the Union of Bessarabia with the Mother Country

On 27 March 1918, the Country Council, the body that was leading Bessarabia at the time, proclaimed the union of the territory with the Romanian Kingdom. Today, 26 March 2016, a commemoration service was celebrated, at the Patriarchal Cathedral, for the authors of the union of Bessarabia with the mother country. The religious service was celebrated by His Grace Varlaam Ploieşteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch – TRINITAS TV informs.

His Grace underlined that commemoration of the heroes is a duty of the Church which remembers all the heroes of the Romanian nation every day, at the Divine Liturgy. We include among heroes all those who have really shed their blood and sacrificed their lives on the altar of the homeland, as well as those who worked, fought, suffered for the unity and welfare of the Romanian nation.

“While referring to the authors of the Union of Bessarabia with the mother country, besides the fact that many of them were people of the Church, they have also been graduates of the Seminary of Chişinău and of the Spiritual Eparchial School”, the hierarch also said.

Mrs Ambassador Iuliana Gorea-Costin, from the Compartment of the High Representative of the Romanian Government for the Republic of Molodova attended the commemoration service.
