Bucharest parishes donate 3,500 € for Sara Nukina church volunteer suffering from brain tumour

Three parishes from Bucharest’s Sector 2 Deanery have raised 3,500 Euros for the treatment of teenager church volunteer Sara Nukina, who is fighting a brain tumour. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Fr. Mihai Christian Popescu, the dean overseeing the parishes.

“Sara Nukina participated in many socio-cultural events organized in our deanery. She often sang at Liturgy. She would only wear Romanian traditional clothes,” the dean said. “We did not necessarily want to make this action public, but we thought it was important to know because it can encourage others to donate.”

Radio Trinitas, through The Joy of Stories programme host Adriana Ene, has initiated a fundraising campaign for the teenager. Patriarch Daniel of Romania donated 2,000 Euros. “She helped as a volunteer so many people, now it is our turn to help Sara,” he told Radio Trinitas.

Sara was diagnosed with an inoperable infiltrative brain stem tumour, requiring the best oncological treatment one can get. She is treated at the AKH Hospital in Vienna. Only the first stage of her treatment costs 50,000 Euros.

Sara turned 16 last Saturday and her Facebook account got filled with well-wishing and encouragement messages from her high-school colleagues and acquaintances both from Romania and Japan. A support Facebook page has also been created: There is hope for Sara.
