Basilica Media Centre: Mission to cultivate the unity of faith and nation of Romanians

On the patronal feast of the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel conveyed a message to the Media Centre’s staff pointing to their mission to cultivate the unity of faith and nation of Romanians.

The Feast of the Holy Trinity is the first patronal feast of the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate, because, chronologically, its first department, Radio Trinitas, was founded in 1998, followed by the Lumina newspaper in 2005.

The second patronal feast of the Basilica Media Centre is the feast day of Saint Demetrius the New, because it was established on October 27, 2007.

Although the moment of setting up the five departments of the Basilica Media Centre differs, and their mission uses specific means, they still mirror, through joint efforts, the unitary life and activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church in society.

Because the Church preaches in the world the unity and the merciful love of the Holy Trinity for humankind, the Media Centre of our Church, namely the Trinitas Radio and Television stations, the Lumina Newspaper, the Basilica News Agency and the Press Office, promotes in a variety of ways the same spiritual message of the Church in the Romanian media.

By promoting Orthodox worship and Romanian culture, by highlighting folk traditions, through media campaigns targeting Romanians from within the country borders and the diaspora, through social reports and daily news articles, through testimonies and evocations, through pages from the national history, through documentaries and live broadcasts on major events, through edifying words either printed or published online, the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate contributes to the cultivation and strengthening of the unity of faith and nation of the Romanian people.

In 2018, when we celebrate the 1918 Great Union Centennial, the feast of the All-Holy Trinity has a special significance not only because the activity program of the Solemn Year of the Unity of Faith and Nation has become the main media program of the Basilica Media Centre, but also because we mark 20 years of uninterrupted broadcasting of the Trinitas Radio station (1998-2018), and 10 years of online activity of the Basilica News Agency (2008-2018).

In two decades of uninterrupted activity, for many Romanians the Trinitas Radio station has become what it initially intended, ‘a radio for the soul.’

Through its shows, it communicates the saving and sanctifying love of God in the homes of people, so that people may seek the Home of God’s eternal love, whose porch is the Holy Church.

For 10 years, the Basilica News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate is the website through which the pastoral, missionary, social-philanthropic activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church is made known through news articles, reports or interviews.

Thus, the Basilica News Agency reveals in words and pictures the ‘Good to know’ from all the dioceses of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

On today’s celebration, we offer prayers of thanksgiving and hymns of glory to the All Holy Trinity for the blessing poured out upon all those who work in the five departments of the Basilica Media Centre, carrying out a useful missionary activity more and more appreciated by the members of our Church.

At the same time, we thank all the dioceses, institutions and persons that have supported and support the good conduct of the media activities of the Romanian Patriarchate.

Moreover, we congratulate all the labourers and the collaborators of the Basilica Media Centre’s departments and thank them for their loyalty and dedication to the Church and its mission in society.

In particular, we pray to the All-Merciful God to send His grace and blessing to all the listeners, readers and viewers who joyfully receive, appreciate and support the cultural, social and missionary work of the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate.

We wish everyone many and blessed years!
