Assembly of the Deans of the Faculties of Orthodox Theology, in Sibiu

The stage of manuals drafting for the Orthodox university theological education and unitary regulations for doctor’s degree schools were only some of the themes analysed at “Saint Andrei Saguna” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Sibiu. The meeting of the deans of the Faculties of Orthodox Theology of the country was held Tuesday, 17 May 2016, with the working session chaired by His Grace Varlaam Ploieşteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch.

In the beginning, His Grace Varlaam Ploieşteanul transmitted to the deans of the Faculties of Orthodox Theology and representatives of the Departments of Orthodox Theology from the Romanian Universities His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church’s message of blessing.

“We wish this assembly to operate at a very high level and produce important proposals and decisions for the evolution of the high theological education”, His Grace said.

There followed the welcome speech on behalf of the dean of the Faculty of Theology in Sibiu, Rev. Univ. Prof. Dr. Nicolae Chifăr.

“The Deans’ Assembly completes the series of manifestations prepared on the occasion of 230th anniversary of theological education in Sibiu”, the speaker underlined.

Rev. Dr. Florin Marica, patriarchal counsellor within the Theological Educational Department, Dr. Alexandru Mălureanu, inspector in charge with Orthodox graduate, postgraduate theological education and scholarship exchange, as well as Rev. Univ. Prof. Dr. Viorel Ioniţă from the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest participated in the meeting – the representatives of the Press Office of the Eparchy inform.

The other themes discussed focused on: preparation of the 7th Congress of the Faculties of Orthodox Theology from the Romanian Patriarchate, event to be held from 10-11 October 2016, at Alba Iulia; actions taken by the faculties of theology in view of creating centres of research and documentation regarding Religious courses; presentation of the solutions identified for ARCIS requirements in preservation of the name of “didactical theology” by introducing psycho-pedagogical level I unit in the educational curriculum, starting from the institutional relationship University-Faculty-Department for training the teaching staff; promotion and strengthening the status of “Sacred Art” specialisation.
