14 Years Since the Passing Away of Father Cleopa

14 years passed since one of the best known father confessors of Romania, Rev. Archimandrite Cleopa Ilie passed away. Father Cleopa Ilie was born one century ago, on 10 April 1912, in Culița commune, count of Botoșani, and joined monasticism when he was 17 years old. The 12 years he spent as shepherd for the sheep of Sihăstria Monastery were “the school of monasticism and theology” for the great father confessor, as he himself used to day, because he could read tens of theological book during that period, basic for his formation, when he also learned to love the Creation of God even more.

In 1914 he was ordained hierodeacon, and hieromonk next year. On 30 August 1949, he was appointed abbot of Slatina Monastery, county of Suceava. In 1964 he settled at Sihăstria Monastery forever. Here, having been father confessor of the entire community, he always advised, till his passing away, for 34 years, both laic and clergy from all over the country.
