14 August 1849 – Bishop GHERASIM TIMUȘ was born in Iași – photo-. Studies at “Veniamin” Seminary at Socola (1867 – 1874), with difference of secondary school and school leaving examination, then at the Faculties of Philology of Bucharest and Iași; married deacon (1871); widower, he becomes a monk at Cernica, in 1875, having been appointed archdeacon and preacher at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Bucharest (1875 – 1880), then sent to study at the Faculty of Theology of Cernăuți (1880 – 1884), where he was awarded the doctor’s degree. Professor of Hebrew language and Bible study of the Old Testament of Bucharest (1884 – 1893), dean of the Faculty (1892 – 1893); titular hierarch of the name “Piteșteanul” (December 1886); Bishop locum tenens of Argeș (from 1 June 1893), then eparchial Bishop (14 March 1894, enthroned on 27 March 1894), where he served till his death. He was interested in the good development of the church life, in the re-establishment of Turnu and Stânișoara Monasteries. He passed away on 22 December 1911, in Bucharest.

Works: Notes and Meditations on the Psalms (3 volumes, 1896 with over 2100 pages); Hagiographic Dictionary of concise lives of the saints (1898, 874 pages). He translated: Introduction into the Orthodox Theology, by Macarie Bulgacov of Moscow (1885, 640 pages, after the French edition, Paris 1857), Orthodox Dogmatic Theology by Macarie of Moscow (2 volumes, 1886-1887, 1637 pages, after the French edition, Paris 1859 – 1860); World Church History by Eusebiu Popovici (2 volumes, 1900-1901, in collaboration with Atanasie Mironescu).
