11 June 1903 – NICOLAE BALCA, deacon and theology professor was born in Tohanu Nou, county of Brașov. Studies at the Normal School of “Andrei Șaguna” of Sibiu, and at the theoretic secondary school with final examination in private (1925). High studies at the “Andean” Theological Academy of Sibiu (1925-1929) and Religious Philosophy, Theology and Pedagogy at the University of Jena (1930 – 1935); doctor in Philosophy at Jena (1935, equated at the University of Cluj); Pedagogy professor at the Normal School of “Andrei Șaguna” of Sibiu (1935 – 1947); lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest (1947-1948 and 1952-1970) and at the University Theological Institute of Cluj (1948-1952), professor at the Theological Institute of Bucharest for Homiletics and Catechetical Teaching (1952-1970); participant in many international conferences in Germany and Austria; deacon (1934), stavrofor archdeacon (1952). He passed away on 7 December 1983, in Bucharest.
